Unfortunately, as fate would have it, her time with Gokudera Hayato – her one and only child – was severely short-lived. On his third birthday, she died suddenly in a car accident while driving up the mountainside to visit him. Her vehicle had swerved and fell off of a cliff. The kind and gentle woman who had taught him piano and gifted him with presents was dead, but it didn’t directly affect young Hayato until five years later. He was too busy dealing with his own issues. As it so happened, he was the heir to the Gokudera famiglia, albeit an illegitimate one. He was given innumerous amounts of lessons and responsibilities at an extremely early age. And, once his parents found out he was a genius, his life did nothing but took a turn for the worse.
Aside from the advanced courses they pushed on him, Hayato was also handed the obligation to perform at recitals. His half-sister, Bianchi, cared deeply about her younger brother. She had started to learn how to cook different types of food at the age of eight – all turning out to be poisonous. Unwittingly, she’d decided to give him a good luck cookie before his first act, poisoning him in the process. The guests praised his “unique and modern” skills enthusiastically after his performance, resulting in a disastrous chain of events. Instead of reprimanding his sister for what she did, his father further encouraged her to continue feeding him her innovations. He was thus subjected to her cooking repeatedly in small doses, eventually developing a full-fledged phobia for Bianchi.
The turning point of his life happened by chance when he was eight years old. Overhearing a couple of gossiping maids, he found out the real identity of the woman who’d used to come see him. She was his mother. His biological mother. And, as rumor has it, her death was no accident. Apparently, the mistress of the household did not take well to Lavina’s yearly visits, so she’d pressured her husband into helping her rid of the thorn in their side. It was murder. It was murder in cold blood. Revelation suddenly dawned on him right then and there. No wonder why they’d always treated him like he was nothing more than a trophy to flaunt in people’s faces; no wonder why they didn’t give a damn whenever he was convulsing in pain from ingesting too much poison.
Hatred erupted inside of him. Hatred and inconceivable anger. On that same day, Gokudera Hayato disappeared from the Gokudera family estate, never to return. He didn’t want anything to do with those people anymore. Even though he had no intentions of seeking revenge, he knew forgiveness was out of the question. He wandered the streets for a while afterward, unsure of what his next move should be. Since he grew up in a mafia, he eventually decided he would try to join the surrounding families in the area. That was when he had his first taste of flat out prejudice and discrimination. Not only was he rejected everywhere he’d turned, he was mocked and ridiculed for being a “half-bred,” a “weak musician,” and a “silver-haired bastard.” His anger grew with each attempt until he finally thought to seek out an old friend at the age of nine.
When the determined young heir who had vanished for over a year arrived on his doorsteps, Dr. Shamal – who’d worked for the Gokudera famiglia at the time – could do nothing but take him in under his wing. He taught him ways to defend himself, ways to hone out his mental and physical capabilities. For three straight years, he trained his new protégé in secret. He knew what dangers were out there and he’d wanted to prepare him for them. After all, he couldn’t protect the stubborn boy forever. And he was unfortunately right in his thinking too. It wasn’t long before the Mendolia found him. He was a worthy prize, an invaluable jewel in the making. They now had the successor to the Gokudera famiglia within their hands. Not only that, he was a genius too! The experimentations began. He was subjected to a multitude of tests, but it made no difference to him. It was just like home all over again.
Fortunately (or not so fortunately), since they’d recognized the advantage of his advanced intellect, one of the scientists was assigned to take him in as an apprentice. He was taught things far beyond his years, but he learned them in record time. Hayato had realized right away that the experimentations on his body would decrease if they found him much more valuable in the scientific field. With every rapid progress he made in a certain subject, he was rewarded with more hours of tutelage and lesser time spent in the laboratory as a lab rat. By the age of fourteen, he was appointed the title of a scientist. He still had a lot to learn, but the testing was no longer a problem. Not that it would have really mattered. He was a perforare user by then, a conditioned perforare user who had finally found a place that accepted him without judgment. The Mendolia hadn’t cared about his background. They’d wanted him for his abilities; they’d wanted him for him. That was good enough for him.
Over the course of the following years, he became a vital part to the group of scientists, helping them with their research and initiating projects of his own. It was all for the Famiglia. But, even if he was hardened emotionally to a considerable extent, Gokudera could never bring himself to experiment on the children they’d continuously brought in. He chose to sacrifice himself instead. Using his own body, he tested newly developed fluids in secret first. His strong immunity to poisons had aided him in more than one way throughout his time in the Mendolia and he had Bianchi to thank for it – not that he would ever give her his gratitude. He could withstand the dosages if he measured the amount of intake correctly. In a small way, he’d contributed to the decrease in casualty. He never tried to contemplate over his choice nor question the morality of the Famiglia he was in, but he’d always known it was his form of repentance. His hands were stained with the blood of the innocent.
By the time he’d reached 18, Hayato had become a permanent fixture to the laboratory. The numbers of successful endeavors he’d achieved were insurmountable. He was given bigger and more important tasks with each accomplishment. Although he kept to himself, no one suspected he’d be anything but a benefit to them. He was their youngest protégé, but he was also one of the best. It was why he was finally given the research project that would change the game all over again for him. The head scientist said it was top secret and he’d have all the time he needed to work on it. He was called off duty from all of his other assignments until he finished it. She didn’t give him any details outside of what he needed to know, but a bad feeling stirred within him. The longer he’d spent on the project, the more a chilling dread spread throughout his subconscious. Despite all the inquiries he’d wanted to ask, Gokudera had learned not to question the dealings of the Mendolia because it would only lead to trouble.
It took him two years. It took him two years to make a breakthrough on the project. The file had arrived in the form of an equation. It would have looked simple enough to the uneducated eye, but it had taken him countless hours of sleepless nights to solve it. At one point, he’d almost believed it would drive him insane if he’d kept working on it. But he did it. He had done it at last. Except the joy one would expect him to feel was not there. He didn’t know what it was or why he suddenly came to the decision he’d came to. All he knew was that he’d die before he handed over the solution. Destroying all the paperwork he’d spent two years working on, Hayato decided to lie to the head scientist and say he had no way to solve it. She didn’t believe him. And that was when the second betrayal in his life occurred. They tried to kill him. He’d suspected it would happen considering the information they had given him, but it still shocked him how quickly they'd made their move.
Poison. Poison. They tried to fucking poison him. It would have been laughable if it didn’t piss him off so much. As if his anger wasn’t enough, they just had to add oil onto fire. He had lucked out when he’d kept his insusceptibility to toxin a secret. Well, now they were going to get a firsthand taste of the errors of their ways. He didn’t cause a lot of damage, but it was enough to set them back for months. The fight did leave him severely injured though. He had barely made it out alive if he wasn’t already so familiarized with the landscape. At the age of 20, Gokudera Hayato left the Mendolia with nothing but a ransom for his capture and eight years of priceless information on the scientific advancements of the Famiglia in his head. He had no intentions of spilling any of it out since he didn’t want it getting into the wrong hands. At the same time, he had no intentions of returning to the laboratory again either. The news of his escape (or “release” as the Mendolia deemed it to be) was kept low profile. They limited the particulars of their reason for hunting him down to “something he had stolen” from them. Allies of the Famiglia were supposed to be the only ones to know, but gossip is a tricky business and it tends to spread quickly like wild fire.
Rumor has it that the illegitimate heir of the Gokudera Famiglia has been released from the Mendolia for unsanctioned experimentation on test subjects. No one is sure, but word on the streets is that he has taken something belonging to the Mafia group with him. Now, families on all sides are searching to either capture or recruit him, but his current status remains MIA. He is a 3/4th Italian and 1/4th Japanese young man with silver hair and green eyes at the estimated height of 6” tall. His birthdate is on September 9, 21 years of age. Be cautious when approaching him. He is armed and highly dangerous. His last sighting is said to be in Syracuse. But, as only the locals in the city of Catania would have it, there is talk of a new redheaded bartender in the area who is making quite the commotion.
Scortesia and Intuito Bullets
His stronghold centers on explosives made with traces of poisonous powder. Given his tutelage under Dr. Shamal and his own ingenuity in the sciences, he is able to create and utilize the weapons effortlessly, keeping them hidden away on various parts of his body. As a mathematical genius, he is primarily a strategist, so he has a notable emphasis on long range attacks. It leaves him at a clear disadvantage when the opponent manages to get too close though – if they manage to get too close, anyway. He wears a special utility belt around his waist to store his bullets and chemicals; and his gun is concealed inside a secret compartment within his holster, which doubles as a holder for his lighter and cigarettes. It is also an enhancer he’d created to fortify and increase both his defensive and offensive abilities by forming a force field long enough to deflect less powerful attacks.
When shot with the bullet, the flames of his explosives changes to a fiery red color, ignited by his hands to save time from his usual means of a cigarette. His Intuito works mainly to bolster his Scortesia, increasing the overall functionality of his strength, agility, senses, and mental capabilities. His Scortesia allows him to propel multitude of explosives at once as well as amplifying their destructiveness. The combination of the Scortesia-Intuito bullets simply boosts up the chemical instability and range of his weaponry, giving him the benefit of widening the berth between him and his opponent. But, since the destructive element of his flame is highly sensitive, it has the potential of backfiring and inflicting damage on himself if his emotions become too frayed. And, given the amount of injections he’d imposed on his own body, his system can collapse from overexertion easily, usurping him of his energy.
Mendolia, previously.
Now, he’s just a simple bartender.
